News Around the League

Smokey Skies
  • White Sox - Yankees game at Yankee Stadium was postponed due to hazardous air quality conditions, according to Major League Baseball. The decision to postpone the game was made in consideration of the clearly hazardous air quality conditions.
  • Tigers - Phillies game was also postponed due to poor air quality caused by Canadian wildfires. Smoke from the wildfires drifted into the United States, raising health concerns for players, staff, and spectators. Ensuring the safety of individuals involved in outdoor activities is of utmost importance to Major League Baseball. They collaborate with authorities and experts to assess air quality conditions and make informed decisions.
Injuries
  • deGrom - It was announced that the highly acclaimed two-time Cy Young Award winner would need to undergo surgery to address a tear in his right ulnar collateral ligament. While the Rangers' GM, Chris Young, did not provide specific details about the type of surgery, whether it be reconstructive Tommy John surgery or an alternative procedure, one thing is certain – deGrom will be sidelined for the remainder of the season. This setback deals a significant blow to the pitcher's time with the Rangers, leaving fans and the organization disappointed.
  • Yankees - Both slugger Aaron Judge and left-hander Nestor Cortes will be sidelined and placed on the injured list. Judge's injury involves a contusion and sprain of the ligament in his right big toe. The team will have to navigate without their star player for the time being, which presents a challenge for the Yankees.
Big League Showcase
  • De La Cruz arrived on the Major League field with high expectations surrounding him, and the young infielder proved himself more than capable as he confidently took on the challenge. In his debut, he showcased his skills by going 1-for-3 with a double, two walks, and crossing the plate to score a run. Notably, his double in the third inning was a powerful hit, registering an impressive exit velocity of 112 mph. De La Cruz's performance undoubtedly lived up to the pre-existing hype and demonstrated his potential in the Major Leagues.
